Yesterday, my friend, Kate, and I went to the Hillbilly Daylilies “Bloomin’ Bash” in Bunker Hill, West Virginia. If you have never been to this event (or any flower Bloomfest-type event), you really must!
A portion of yesterday’s proceeds benefitted the Berkeley County Humane Society, who were kind enough to let Kate play with Melody, the cutest puppy named because she “carries a good tune while she’s in her crate.”
The daylilies were showing off in grand style, aptly labeled with names to delight and entertain: Big Mama, Brown Eyes, Double Trouble, Super Doll, Daring Deception, and my personal favorite, Little Bit Sassy. For between $10-20 a bunch, attendees could bring a little bit of hillbilly heaven home with them. Of course, I did! (If my husband is reading this…. I just looked!) 🙂 In reality, “Big Mama” found a home in my back yard and is already bossing around her young ‘uns. (There may have been others but for now, that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!)
The food was abundant. Big Daddy’s BBQ, hamburgers & hotdogs, ice cream cones (sans the calories, of course!), and freshly squeezed lemonade rounded out the menu while Rockabilly music filled the air with bluegrass for the young and old.
Enjoy your Sunday and on this day, I send you warm wishes and a little bit of Hillbilly!
