Today was my second session with Rick at In-FIT Studio. www.inFITstudio.com. If this is news to you, take a minute to review last Monday’s post http://mustloveshoes.com/2011/10/where-everyone-knows-your-name/.
Rick upped the ante today. He may think I didn’t know it, but I am SO on to him. But that’s good. That’s why I’m there. If I didn’t want to be pushed, I’d be working out at home. Actually I wouldn’t be working out at home… that was the problem and why I need him now.
Of all the drills he puts me through, the one that bothers me the most involves no weights at all, no fancy moves while balancing myself on an exercise ball, no repetitions up and down a high step while doing arm curls. Nope! It involves a simple orange cone, no higher than 12 inches and a rubber-encrusted foam cushion.
Here’s the deal. As you stand on the cushion, you lift one leg and begin bowing down towards the cone while balancing yourself on the other foot. You continue in a downward descent until you touch the top of the cone with the opposing hand. Up, down, up, down. Repeat 15 times. It may sound easy to you, but it’s not. I look like Daniel-SAN ala 1980’s Karate Kid with his arms overhead, leg perched in the air as he prepares to kick some major ass!
To be successful, it requires balance.
It’s a metaphor for life.
And that’s why it bothers me that I can’t do it.
For the past year, I struggled to find balance in my life. Between running my training business, finishing up my Masters program, serving as Board President for Leadership Washington County, finishing my second book, along with all the other requirements of being a working woman, I had little time to invest in myself.
But now it’s different.
To be truthful, Rick looks much more like Daniel-SAN than Mr. Miyagi, but I think you get the picture. 🙂
Each week, I will get stronger.
In every way.
But if I ever hear the words “wax on-wax off”, I’m outta there!
