Today is Monday which means it was an In-FIT morning.www.in-FITstudio.com. It was my third session and once again, Rick mixed it up to keep things interesting.
I’ve noticed something about myself in the weeks since I started working with a personal trainer on Monday mornings. I do really well on my health & fitness goals ALL day on Monday! You may think I’m trying to be funny but, considering my life, I consider it an accomplishment to get through a single day! But what’s REALLY exciting is that the discipline and good feelings carry all the way through Wednesday. Feeling sore in parts of my body I forgot even EXISTED definitely helps to keep it real and remind me why I’m doing this.
But come Thursday, I start down a slippery slope and find myself reverting back to old habits. Which is why I know that at some point, I’m going to need to add a second training session later in the week… just to keep me honest.
How ironic that as I reflected on this “slippery slope” pattern of mine (while counting reps, of course!) Rick introduced the adult workout version of the “slip & slide.” While laying on my back, knees up, feet on the floor wearing booties like I’m either a HVAC professional or medical surgical staff, I’m instructed to keep my hips up and perform a variety of foot movements on a slippery mat. Up and back, up and back, both legs together, then one at a time. Tough stuff for someone who has ignored her abs for a very long time. Had it not been for the fact that I knew I was being watched, I surely would have opted out of THAT one with a polite “thanks, but no thanks.”
But once again, everything I know about life, I’m learning again in the gym.
Slippery slopes are everywhere.
To get through them, you need:
A strong resolve,
Someone willing to hold you accountable,
Theknowledge that they are merely temporary.
And vision, because “you can’t be what you can’t see.”
