If you’ve ever heard any of my presentations, you know that I’m a big believer in the power of attitude. And you’ll also recognize one of my favorite Jim Rohn quotes that “you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
I tell my audiences that all the time and I raised my children with that philosophy because I know it to be true. To raise your AQ (Attitude Quotient), surround yourself with people who lift you up and inspire you!
Today was In-Fit Monday morning. www.infitstudio.com. If you’ve been following my posts, you know that for the past month I’ve been spending Monday mornings with Kip, Rick, Joan, the Donna’s, Helen, Seymour, and many others whom I look forward to seeing each week. They have become “good company” for me because their presence raises my AQ as well as my FQ (Fitness Quotient).
Today while completing my crunches, it hit me that I’ve also been spending time with five other individuals who have influenced me in a slightly more subtle manner. They are the photos of five athletes who grace the posters on the walls of our workout room. Each athlete’s photo bears a different title: Intensity, Power, Courage, and Tradition, respectively. I don’t know their names but I know that they epitomize excellence not just in sports, but in life. It reminds me that although my journey has just begun, I train in the presence of greatness. Greatness that was surely achieved because boundaries were constantly challenged and redefined until they became, in a sense, nonexistent.
Far apart from these pictorial role models is one last poster, which both amuses and unfortunately, at times has defined me. The heading reads: Defiance. It represents the “company” I used to be until I changed the way I start my week.
But my “average” is going up. And you don’t have to do the math to understand why.
It’s the company I keep!
