Today is piano tuning day at my house.
Once a year, Matt Puziss of Frederick Piano Service, www.frederickpianoservice.com, appears on my doorstep with his physician-like atache case and spends an hour fine tuning my Baldwin upright.
In the early years when my sons were home, the piano saw a lot of playing time. Now, unfortunately, the “recitals” are limited to Matt’s annual visits.
His fingers move deftly across the keys as he tweaks and adjusts the inner workings to ensure that the piano will work optimally in the coming year. (Each year, I vow that THIS will be the year I finally take those lessons again or, at the very least, carve a little “me” time into the day so I can practice the 2-3 songs that I DO know!)
My favorite part of his visit occurs when the drills are over and he begins to play a few test chords. Before long the sweet sounds of a melody drift through my quiet house and fill it, once again, with glorious harmony.
Life is like that too. Sometimes we must undergo a little fine tuning as well.
As summer rolls in and our schedules shift from allegro to adagio, perhaps now is the time to analyze what needs tweaking in your life.
Review that bucket list.
Re-structure your priorities.
Invest in yourself and the people who make your life a sweet, sweet melody.
Now is the time! Play on!
