Although I consider myself an extrovert, I love spending New Year’s quietly at home. Dan and I are having steak and scallops for dinner. Before watching the ball drop in Times Square with Ryan Seacrest, I will go through my “2012 memory box.”
It is a tradition I started many years ago as a way of focusing on the positive aspects of my year. We tend to remember the big events but forget all those blissfully wonderful smaller moments that make life grand. So throughout the year I throw memorabilia of all kinds into my special memory box to review on NYE. The box contains programs from shows I’ve attended with friends, wonderful heart-felt notes received in the mail that came at the perfect time, and anything that captures the essence of the many extraordinary moments that make up the days in my ordinary life.
I look forward to this ritual every year and have often teared up reading some of the notes or remembering a special moment from my life that year.
So…. on this New Year’s eve, I wish YOU many wonderful, poignant memories from 2012. I hope that it makes you realize how much you are loved and that life (even with those ordinary moments) is a gift.
