This was the weekend I love.
The ceremonial putting my gardens to bed.
Urns and flower pots emptied, scrubbed, and stored for the winter.
The buildings, once laden with vintage treasures, now a clean slate.
We are both weary….ready for rest, my gardens and I.
Longing for time apart from one another.
Dreaming of blankets, both snow and fleece, to seduce us each into slowing down.
The magazines and catalogs are already piled high. Promises of new garden dreams, plans, excitement.
Winter is the time for that, and He will come soon enough.
But for now… this weekend…..
Autumn smiled the year’s last loveliest smile.
And I smiled back.
