I’m thrilled to welcome four new Kitten Sponsors to this year’s Soles of Love in the Garden party. Each one of these “soul-filled” women are either old friends or new friends I wanted immediately to have as an old friend. Introducing…..
Julie Castleman, owner of Mountain Memories at ThorpeWood. I don’t even remember when I first met Julie because she’s the kind of soul you feel like you’ve known forever. Nothing makes me happier than to see her doing what she loves… helping others make special memories! Mountain Memories at ThorpeWood is a woman-owned business with fifteen years experience in events and planning. She has helped plan over 750 weddings! (That’s a lot of wedding cake!) Here is where it gets good…. a portion of the monies received from weddings, corporate events, birthday parties, etc. provide funding for their Equine Assisted Learning Program and partnership with Head Start Frederick County. If you want your heartstrings tugged, go to their Facebook page and look at the pictures of the faces on these children when they are with these horses! Another interesting fact is that nonprofit organizations may use the ThorpeWood lodge and grounds at no charge. Yep! You may want to read that again! I’ve attended many events at ThorpeWood as well as facilitated there and I can tell you, from experience, there is no more magical, idyllic place to celebrate life’s special moments than in the beautiful Catoctin Mountains! Thanks Julie!
Christine and Brian Laurich own Vintage Sign Co. I actually just met Christine for the first time this past year and we made an instant connection. They have an interesting story, especially knowing how I love all things vintage! Back in the day when Brian began signmaking, Christine and their daughters would accompany him at artisan shows, such as Waterford, VA, dressed in period clothing to help give their brand a comprehensive “brand” experience. Seriously, you can’t sell vintage signs wearing Manolo Blahniks and skinny jeans, can you??? 🙂 At any rate, the signs were made with re-claimed period woods, authentic designs, and all hand-painted. As automation and technology evolved, Brian was able to create the same look with increased capabilities. Now, using other materials in addition to wood (which are more durable and affordable), Vintage Sign Co. also has the resources to create signs in larger quantities.. Their signs are everywhere across the country and internationally. I caught my first glimpse of their work at last year’s Catoctin Affair where Brian and Christine donated a vintage American flag sign that was a definite crowd pleaser! I love their slogan “where fine art becomes sign art…since 1996.” But it pales in comparison to how much I love my newly found friend in Chrstine.
Barbara Wagner must love this year’s Soles of Love in the Garden’s theme, Colors of the Sea. She is a beach bunny and loves sharing the feeling of sun on your face and toes in the sand! Barbara’s Villa at Beach Walk sounds like paradise and I sure could use a little piece of heaven right now. Looking for a great place to have a family trip? Girl’s Weekend? Retreat? How does ocean view, three bedrooms and three bathrooms sound to you? Yep! Sounds like the stuff mellow memories are made of. Barb’s condo is located in North Myrtle Beach and to inquire about rental information, contact her at [email protected] I’m thinking…. that must be the secret to Barb’s easy going personality! She’s onto something and you can be too. Look for her at the party Friday night.
Joan Wicks is my idol. We are workout buddies and she crushes her fitness on days when often I……ummmmm…. watch her. 🙂 We quickly became friends that extended beyond the sweat-induced confines of Achieve Fitness and time spent with Joan is always filled with laughter and positivity. Joan is lending her support to our Soles project as a Kitten Sponsor and asked that we give the Banner School a shout out! Active on the Banner School board and a proud Banner parent, Joan gives generously of her time, talent, and treasures. She shared with me once that at a Banner School board retreat, the members identified three words that best describe their students. Confident. Principled. Prepared. Now that I think about it, that describes Joan perfectly. She won’t be able to attend our gathering on Friday but if you drop in to see “Trainer Rick” sometime, she may be the one wearing the weighted vest! 🙂
That’s it for now! Stay tuned because soon you will meet the Flip Flop gals (and guy). And they are a fun bunch of enthusiastic supporters!
